The most important facts about our sex life from the new Bochow study. In 2010 the Federal Centre for Health Education asked gay men about their life situation for the ninth time. The aim is to check and, if necessary, increase the success of HIV prevention. For 25 years we have had a pretty good picture of the pleasure potential we are endowed with, who we live with and where the burden of discrimination or stigmatisation still exists, whether it be because of HIV or homosexuality. Here are the most important facts from the recently published Bochow study on our sex life.

Gays still like and have a lot of sex

And if possible, preferably with just one person, the boyfriend. About a quarter of the participants (23%) stated that they had had only one sex partner in the twelve months prior to the survey. For 80 percent of men with a single sex partner, this is the boyfriend. Three quarters (77%) of the respondents had had less than ten male sexual partners, this figure is almost identical to that in the 2007 survey. The average German is, depending on the survey, about two sex partners per year. The older, the harder

Respondents aged 30 and over have more sexual partners than respondents under 30 (on average six vs. four sexual partners). Men without a fixed relationship and in an "open" relationship state on average five sex partners in the year before the survey. The proportion of men who have sex with more than ten different partners increases significantly from the age of 30 onwards. It is remarkable that there are hardly any differences between the two age groups of the 30 to 44-year-olds and the over 44-year-olds. If someone is afraid in their young heart that they won't get any more when they are over 30, these values should reassure them. Everything will be fine, it will even get better.

Not surprisingly: opportunity makes love

The city dweller hunts more successfully, more easily and more often than the country gangs. But now the invention called Internet has been around in the province for a long time. And that levels out the unequal chances enormously. A high proportion of those surveyed have all (24%) or most (24%) sex partners via internet portals, and this figure hardly changes when put in relation to the number of inhabitants in the place of residence. A myth is also the assumption that a high percentage of sex partners met via the Internet is equivalent to a high number of sex partners. However, the social scientists involved draw other important conclusions. The study states: "Visiting meeting places (such as bars, clubs, saunas, cruising locations, etc.) is still highly relevant, and the Internet as a virtual world may have limited, but by no means eliminated the importance of these meeting places for finding sex partners". So Gayromeo is not blaming you for everything.

Passive anal sex: Boring in the long run

Most popular question on the Internet: What are you into. It was also asked in the study. Still number one on the popularity scale of sexual practices: cum (in study jargon, "mutual masturbation") and blowing, active/passive ("insertive and receptive oral sex"). 90 percent said that these are the most popular activities when dating men who are not partners. Insertive or receptive anal intercourse is practiced by two thirds with other partners in the year prior to the survey. Whether A-type or P-type, it is also a question of age: two thirds of those under 20 years of age could be fucked, three quarters of those between 20 and 59 years of age and 55 % of those over 59 years of age. Active fucking is practised by three-quarters of those under 20 and 20-29, two-thirds of those aged 30 to 59 and 59% of those over 59. Over the years, the desire to practice fucking at all - in changing roles - increases. Only 13 per cent gave it up altogether (in 2007, 23 per cent chickened out).

Protect yourself, and that's all it takes

Even though many, especially younger ones, stated that they felt their pleasure was impaired and disturbed by the condom, and the authors deduced from this the recommendation to think again about prevention messages beyond the condom, regular use of the rubber is still part of it for the vast majority, especially outside of fixed partnerships. Half of the men (53%) who have had analgenital contact with partners outside stable partnerships say that they have always used condoms. A further 23% say that they "mostly" did so. A quarter (24 %) of those in stable partnerships "always" used a condom, 9 % "most often".

13 percent of gays have anal sex every day

If you believe in porn, the gay man can't get enough of butt-fucking. Although most people practice this form of sex, many don't practice it very often. Five out of six gay men enjoy anal sex at least a few times a year. This is one of the results of a survey conducted by Bespoke Surgical, a private surgical clinic in New York City that specializes in the anal area. The clinic conducted an online survey of more than 600 people from the U.S. about their sex life - only men who identify themselves as gay and women who identify themselves as heterosexual were surveyed. Other results: 13 percent of gays said they use anal sex every day to keep fit; 39 percent enjoy anal sex several times a week, and just under one in four enjoy it several times a month. Only one in six respondents stated that they had anal sex less than once a year. Unsurprisingly, butt intercourse is thus far more popular among gays than among heterosexual women. According to the survey, 56 percent of them stated that they were penetrated in this way less than once a year. However, at least one in four women said they had anal sex at least a couple of times a month.

More tops than bottoms

According to the survey, the distribution of tops and bottoms among gays is not quite synchronous: 39 percent said they were active, 29 percent preferred to be passive. Exactly one third described themselves as versatil. A survey conducted by the German portal gay.de last year, however, came to a completely different conclusion: According to the survey, there were significantly more gays who would rather take the passive than the active role. According to the new survey, the anal cleaning does not look very good: According to the survey, only 42 per cent perform an anal shower before each or most sexual acts - especially active are those who have butt sex every day. Condom use was also surveyed: 37 percent always use a condom during anal sex, 21 percent sometimes and 16 percent never. This means that gay men are far more enthusiastic about condoms than heterosexual women: In this group 57 percent never use a condom during anal sex. However, these figures do not reveal how many of the men who do not use a condom live in a committed relationship or rely on other safer sex methods.
